{"id":191,"date":"2007-07-14T19:44:01","date_gmt":"2007-07-14T18:44:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bearlybeaded.co.uk\/blog\/?p=191"},"modified":"2007-07-14T19:44:01","modified_gmt":"2007-07-14T18:44:01","slug":"final-day-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bearlybeaded.co.uk\/blog\/?p=191","title":{"rendered":"Final day out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My last full weekend living in Ireland (I leave next Saturday), and it was a beautiful day when I woke up so I decided to take advantage of it and take myself out for the day.\u00c2\u00a0 I started by driving west into <a title=\"Link to Connemara.net\" href=\"http:\/\/www.connemara.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Connemara<\/a> to <a title=\"Link to the website for Spiddal village\" href=\"http:\/\/www.anspideal.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Spiddal<\/a>, partly because it&#8217;s a nice drive, but I also wanted to pay a visit to <a title=\"A link to the website for Spiddal Craft Village\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ceardlann.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Spiddal Craft Village<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image182\" alt=\"Spiddal beach\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bearlybeaded.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/pict0130-small.jpg\" width=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While there is a sandy stretch at Spiddal Beach, a lot of it is much more interesting &#8211; streams, rock pools, and a bit of an outcrop to scramble over.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image183\" alt=\"Spiddal Craft Village\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bearlybeaded.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/pict0137-small.jpg\" width=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Link to Spiddal Craft Village\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ceardlann.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ceardlann (Spiddal Craft Village)<\/a> is always worth a look around.\u00c2\u00a0 While I was there I bought some fantastic candles, and drooled over the work of one of the artists (I always love her work, but I can&#8217;t afford it).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image184\" alt=\"View from the road\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bearlybeaded.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/pict0144-small.jpg\" width=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I then drove back along the coast road towards Galway.\u00c2\u00a0 This is a view from the coast road near to the bottom of the road I live on.\u00c2\u00a0 Everytime I take this route home from work I remind myself to photograph this view one day, and I&#8217;ve finally managed it in my last week here!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image185\" height=\"325\" alt=\"Signpost in Ballyvaughan\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bearlybeaded.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/pict0147-small.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I then followed the coast road round the tip of Galway Bay, heading for the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher.\u00c2\u00a0 I had to photograph this signpost in Ballyvaughan on the way though &#8211; they really make the signposts work hard in this part of Ireland.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image186\" alt=\"Looking back down the switchbacks\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bearlybeaded.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/pict0148-small.jpg\" width=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Driving into <a title=\"Link to a site about the Burren\" href=\"http:\/\/www.burrenbeo.com\/homepage.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">the Burren<\/a> you\u00c2\u00a0can go pretty high, and this switchback road (2 bends of which are\u00c2\u00a0just visible in the picture) is always fun to drive along.\u00c2\u00a0 Once you get to the top there are spaces to pull over and enjoy the view back towards the bay in the distance, with the <a title=\"Link to a site about the Burren landscape\" href=\"http:\/\/www.burrenbeo.com\/burren-landscape-overview.aspx?objID=Article\" target=\"_blank\">limestone pavements<\/a> rising up to either side.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image187\" alt=\"Cliffs of Moher visitor centre\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bearlybeaded.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/pict0151-small.jpg\" width=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I finally reached my destination, the <a title=\"Link to the Cliffs of Moher website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cliffsofmoher.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cliffs of Moher<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been a couple of times before, but\u00c2\u00a0each time the visitor centre was a Portacabin while they were working on building the new one.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s finished, and I really wanted to visit before I left Ireland.\u00c2\u00a0 I think the new centre is fantastic, it blends\u00c2\u00a0into the side of the hill like a hobbit hole\u00c2\u00a0with some new exhibitions I enjoyed going round.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image188\" alt=\"Cliffs of Moher\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bearlybeaded.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/pict0168-small.jpg\" width=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image189\" height=\"325\" alt=\"O'Brien's Tower\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bearlybeaded.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/pict0175-small.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Everytime I visit the cliffs I can&#8217;t resist taking loads of photos, especially as this was the first time I&#8217;d visited when it didn&#8217;t rain!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image190\" alt=\"Dunguaire Castle in Kinvara\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bearlybeaded.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/pict0192-small.jpg\" width=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I then enjoyed a leisurely drive back to Galway, following the coast road on the Co.
